What is Pashmina?

Pasmina is another word for finest cashmere, the softest and warmest fiber in the world. Gathered from the undercoat of the Himalayan mountain goat, capra hircus, no material is softer of warmer.

Pashmina is precious not only for its luxury, but its scarcity as well. It can only be collected in the spring when the goats naturally shed their winter coats, and each animal yields only 3-8 ounces per year. No animal is harmed in the process of collection.

The standard "Pashmina shawl" seen gracing the shoulders of so many of the world's most stylish women is a blend of Pashmina and silk. The silk adds as beautiful sheen as well as strength. Different weaving houses weave different blends. We chose to make ours in 70/30 pashmina and finer silk, as it gave pashmina the most buttery soft hand and at the same time maintained the integrity of pashmina in the pashmina products. The higher percentage of pashmina keeps our shawl light and truly season less, something you will reach again and again, any time of year.

Pashmina is sometimes confused with another luxe shawl material, shatoosh, which is the fur from the chin of rare antelope. Since the animal is harmed in collection of shatoosh. trade in shatoosh is banned. Pashmina, on the other hand, possess no threat to the capra hircus and traded in Pashmina is legal everywhere in the world.
